The Biosécurité ovins-caprins-bovins audits were developed by GDS France within a collaboration between different partners in the sector of animal health. The objective of those voluntary checklists is to help the cattle and small ruminant farmers understand the biosecurity level on the farm and to propose concrete measures adapted to the strong and weak points identified. It helps to prioritise the biosecurity investments required. Completing the checklist is for free and can be done on the website of GDS France.
Data collection
The checklists can be completed by the farmer as a self-assessment tool but the farmer can also ask the farm veterinarian or advisor to help him fill it in. Most often while completing the checklist the production units are visited. Furthermore, the checklists can also be used by other sector organizations which might complete the assessment remotely or on site without visiting the stables. In that case the person interviewed is preferably the farm owner. The checklist consists of 32 questions for bovines and 36 for sheep and goats on internal and external biosecurity divided into different categories.
Data analysis, reporting and benchmarking
After completing the checklist a report is generated with recommendations and suggestions on how to improve the farm biosecurity. Benchmarking is not performed.
