General Assembly wrap up: key insights and future directions

The recent General Assembly (GA), held online on 28-29th January was a crucial event for the Biosecure project, setting the stage for important decisions, collaborations, and next steps.
The discussions surrounded around understanding the prevalence of the investigated animal diseases and their risk of introduction. A call for expert reviews to refine tools of biosecurity assessment at different stages of livestock production was made as well as the exploitation of results and IP management. As the project progresses, partners are encouraged to share their insights and findings, with a strong emphasis on effective communication through the project’s internal platform but also to the broader public via (inter)national conferences.

Looking ahead, this meeting revealed plans for upcoming workshops aimed at evaluating sector-specific biosecurity levels across Italy, Romania, and potentially Ireland. These workshops will provide critical opportunities to identify and discuss policy scenarios aiming to improve sectoral biosecurity levels.
As the project moves forward, the next General Assembly in Barcelona in June 2025 and the final conference in Ghent in 2026 are set to be key milestones for further networking, knowledge-sharing, and showcasing the project’s milestones. With action items in place, such as reviewing new biosecurity tools, preparing for sector workshops, and disseminating project results, the next phase of this project promises to be full of collaboration, innovation, and impactful outcomes in the field of biosecurity.
We have been actively disseminating our research and results at major international conferences through oral and poster presentations. Below is a list of key events where BIOSECURE project has been highlighted:
