What’s next for the BIOSECURE project? Reflections from the recent General Assembly 2025

The partners met for Biosecure’s 7th General Assembly (GA) online on 17–18 December 2025. It was a key moment for the project, marking the end of the third year, bringing partners together to review progress, exchange insights, and look ahead to the final phase of the project. During the discussions, partners shared their findings on data generated from the various intervention studies and practical recommendations for future researchers working in the field of biosecurity. These findings underline the importance of framing biosecurity measures as beneficial not only for disease prevention but also for overall animal well-being.

An important topic addressed during the GA was PARAMETRA, a curated database for animal disease modelling that includes data on infectious periods, transmission rates, pathogen survival, diagnostic tests, prevalence, and control measures for a wide range of livestock diseases. Continued promotion and maintenance of this database are essential to ensure that it remains accessible and functional throughout and after the project.

Partners are encouraged to actively share research outcomes through clear communication, both within the consortium and at national and international conferences, to engage effectively with the broader scientific and stakeholder communities.

Several important milestones are scheduled for the coming period, including the General Assembly in Utrecht, The Netherlands on 19–20 May 2026 and the final BIOSECURE meeting in Ghent, Belgium, in November 2026. More updates on this will follow.
